Local Choices of California's Central Valley

Supporting a Sustainable Community

I was wondering what milk everyone drinks. I'm not interested in going the raw milk route, but I'm not finding a local dairy that offers 100% pasture-fed organic milk. I've been buying the Strauss Farms milk from Whole Foods, but I see from the farm's Web site that their cows are only grass-fed for half of the year, and for the other half, some corn and grains are given to the cows. They look like a great farm, but if there's an even healthier choice, I'd love to know.

Got any great suggestions out there?

Hi Cindy,

Welcome to the group!

I have switched my milk habit to Pacific Organic Almond milk and really enjoy it, the claim is more nutritious value with vitamin d, riboflavin, lactose free, cholesterol free and many more other benefits! If you try it, let me know what you think!

Happy Day,

Just Anna

Thanks, Anna!

Alas, I check their Web site and it has carrageenan in it, which has shown to cause cancer. I'll keep hunting around.

Thank YOU!

Oh no...thanks for the heads up!

Trying searching through our list of farmers @ www.localchoicescv.com,
there is a dairy listed. Also you can call Sorenson's Sheep Farm on our site and talk to Emily,
I am sure she can send you in the right direction!

Keep me posted on your findings!

There is a dairy near Turlock called Full Circle Dairy. Not to be mistaken with "Full Circle" products at Raley's. I've been wanting to try them out and have not yet, so I really can't give a personal recommendation. However, I do have a friend who has been purchasing from them and absolutely loves it!

I'll get their info for you from her, since I unfortunately couldn't find anything when I googled them?

I found a link where you could read about them at;

A friend just gave me their personal cell phone#. If you are interested in contacting them, you can message me and I'll pass it along!

Thank you! I'm a CSA member of T&D Willey, and they're absolutely wonderful. I also get my Full Circle Dairy eggs through T&D Willey, and they are also amazing. But alas, they don't have a milk program as of yet. I'll keep hunting, though.

Thank you!

Cindy,

Since you aren't into raw milk, which is what I drink (Claravale) have you tried Clover Milk? Here is a link to their website:
http://www.cloverstornetta.com/McClure_Dairy_Story.asp I believe you can purchase it from Whole Foods.
FYI: Organic Valley does get milk from local dairies in our area.
I'm don't think you'll find a local organic grass-fed diary that will sell you pasturized milk directly.

Good luck on your quest!

Marie

Like what? I know when we go camping we burn wood, then when it's glowing red and not flaming anymore, we grill steaks over it. Yum.

My winter garden is usually better than my summer garden. In the summer it's too hot to go out and weed! It's buggy out there, and I have gophers. So I only have a so-so summer garden, but my winter garden is better. I'm planting NOW (early Sept)...

That's a great box, did you have plastic or glass over it in the coldest months? Or was it open all winter?
